I was looking through a bunch of pictures I took off of the internet over the past couple of months and came across this gem. According to Tre3e Fixed, where the photo originally came from, the cyclist is March Sich of the Apologie Bike Polo Team playing an unnamed horse polo player. Pretty wild shot, it would be cool to watch a horse vs. bike polo game (so dangerous). I'm also a sucker from black and white shots.

As many of you know by now, there has been an EXPLOSION of fixed gear oriented riders, shops and independent brands popping up in Singapore and Indonesia, specifically Jakarta. It is awesome to see how fixed gear cycling is spreading throughout the world and progressing in so many ways. Peonfx in conjunction with Cyclonesia, Sumvelo and Faz Adhili just put out this rad little clip featuring the new Pias track frame. Lately I have been seeing more and more Pias builds on the likes of Pedalroom and Velospace and man are they looking good. The frame is relatively inexpensive (approximately 275 US dollars for frame and fork), the welds are smooth, it's steel and the color is killer; I would love to build one of these bad boys up. As always, great film work by Faz, it's definitely a solid watch and props to the riders. I know from experience, riding brakeless in hilly, wet conditions can get pretty hairy.

A Day In The Life

Today I spent the day walking around with some friends, checking out a few different places in south Philly. The first stop was an awesome coffee shop called Grindcore House which is a rad shop on the corner of South 4th Street and Grenwich, with great coffee and an atmosphere to match (their logo is SO sick). The Philadelphia Record exchange was next on the list; with walls and walls of records and CD's, it's not hard to get lost in the "mess". Next we hit up Maoz on South Street for some delicious falafel sandwichs loaded with pretty much any topping you could imagine. To cap off the day we took a look around Bicycle Revolutions where I drooled over Fuzzy's All-City Mr. Pink for a little while along with the unbelievable collection of track frames they have hanging from the ceiling. All in all it was a great day spent in the company of some good friends!

The weather was tolerable and I was feeling a bit sluggish after the mass food consumption yesterday so I decided to take a nice long ride today. The loop I took had so many freaking hills I thought I was going to die (where gears could come in handy). Anyway I snapped a few pictures of the whip and my new Profile Design Aquarack and Mash SF water bottles by Specialized which are awesome! I can't believe temperatures have stayed in the mid forties this long, the weather has been awesome! Global warming at it's finest. I hope everyone had a relaxing holiday.

Let me preface this post by saying that I know little to nothing about mountain or trials biking.
With that being said I think every aspect of cycling is awesome in it's own respect and I try to stay at least somewhat informed about all styles. The first time I watched this video I was floored. No matter what part of the sport you participate in, whether it be bmx, velodrome, road, tri, etc., you have to admire this dude's bike control. Every single trick is so solid AND he makes it look easy. The stair part starting at 1:23 is so huge, I don't even understand. Plus the accordion guy at the end is awesome. I highly recommend putting this in HD and giving it a thorough watch.

Although it might not be the most aesthetically pleasing case ever or even the most efficient, it is definitely an interesting idea. Working similarly to that of an old phonograph the Horn Bike Case, by Bone Collection, is meant to more clearly project, and amplify, whatever is coming out of your iPhone speakers. According to their website, the horn can increase phone volume up to 13 decibels without any type of power source. The Horn Bike is a safer alternative to headphones while riding, allowing the rider to more clearly hear surrounding traffic and pedestrians.

Landlords Cycling Swag

A few weeks back when I was at the Philadelphia Bike Expo, I happened upon a table covered in sweet Colnago/Merkx sticker recreations and an eclectic group of track bikes and components, including a radical Pogliaghi Pista rusted to perfection (later featured on Prolly Is Not Probably). Another of the old pistas that they had with them was adorned with an awesome Cinelli style "Philly" sticker on the downtube. I contacted the guys of Landlords and a few weeks later, here I am with some swag of my own. Thanks again dudes, the stickers are already being put to good use!

Although I am still not exactly sure what the Landlords Cycling Club is all about, I feel like the first edition of their Videozine gives you a pretty good idea. Keep up with the Landlords crew on their blog loaded with more crazy content.

Is it weird that I spend more time on Pedalroom and Velospace than I do checking emails and looking at facebook? Maybe, but when I'm not out riding my own hunk of metal, drooling over bikes on the internet is just unavoidable; before I even know what's happening I'm typing p-e-d-a-l-r... into the URL bar. Most recently I came across velopsace member and fellow blogger, Hrrundel's unbelievable collection of pristine track bikes. Specifically these three Colnagos really stuck out to me, the Molteni is just awesome and the geometry of the pista TT is back breaking. Keep up with Hrrundel on his wordpress and check out a treasure trove of rad photos on his Flickr.

Honestly one of the most unbelievable collections of mint and restored pistas I have ever seen.

1983 Raleigh Lightweight Series Catalogue

This time of year is always the worst, balancing life and obscene amounts of school work means not so much time for Crank It. But anyway I"M BACK and I was digging through a stack of papers in my basement over Thanksgiving break and came across this rad 1983 Raleigh Lightweight Series Catalogue that came with my dad's 1983 Raleigh Olympian. I was looking through the catalogue and it is really awesome to see how some of the older parts and frames are still in such high demand. The special order 753 with aero breaks, Of Mega crankset and campy deraileurs is simply out of control. Only 100 of these bad boys made in '83 Steel is real!

Outlook 2011 Through The Lens of Tom Spellman

Music festivals are honestly one of my favorite places to be. The atmosphere is always awesome, the people are great, all of your favorite artist are playing in one place and most importantly they're outside. Basically an explosion of ridiculously raging outdoor music. I was scrolling through my blog-roll today and came across these epic pictures of Outlook 2011 which is held in Croatia. From what I have gathered Outlook is an unbelievable four day festival held in Pula, Croatia in the beginning of September. These are a few of my favorite shots but if you are yearning for more check out Better Never Than Late.

If you are interested, the program from the festival is pretty cool and I definitely recommend checking it out.

Fall Back

For the past couple of days the weather in state college has been absolutely beautiful, the temperature is prefect, the leaves are all changing and there is not a cloud in the sky. Recently I have been able to explore a bit more of the area around State College. It's mostly farm land but honestly it never gets old, it's just so therapeutic. Fall has always been my favorite season so get out there and ride before it starts snowing and we're all stuck pedaling in place.

I spotted this video entitled "Coming Soon" a few days ago on UK's own Deaf Pidgeon blog. I'm definitely stoked for the final cut, there are a bunch of really awesome shots and the soundtrack fits in flawlessly. It's honestly just a fun video with a lot of great riding, plus it's fall and who doesn't like fall (more on that at a later date). Also, deaf Pigeon has a rad logo and a real cool site, check it out!

The 2011 Philly Bike Expo

This past weekend I decided it was in my best interest to brave the blizzard and make the trek home to attend the Philadelphia Bike Expo and man did it pay off. The 23rd Street Armory is an awesome venue with plenty of room and a really cool atmosphere. There were tons of vendors and the cream of the crop when it comes to north eastern frame builders. Some of my personal favorites included Peter Mooney, Royal H and of course Icarus and Bishop. Also noteworthy was Holland Cycles, I talked to a rep for a bit and the material they make their frames out of is so high-tech and beautiful that I couldn't help but drool (a mind blowing combination of Titanium and Carbon Fiber). Unfortunately my camera is terrible and I didn't get too many pictures. There was also an outdoor section where cyclists were selling their own hodge-podge of parts or in some cases, just showing off their RIDICULOUS collection of vintage bicycles. I had the opportunity to have a short conversation with the man himself, Mr. Jon "Prolly" Watson, which I might add was pretty cool. I hope everyone that attended had as much fun as I did and I hope to see you next year (hopefully I'll have a real camera by then)!

I'm pretty stoked on this video to say the least. Massan (I think he deleted his blog) has always been one of my favorite riders and the video has such a good vibe. There is nothing like smashing down a curvy mountain road, burning every mm of rubber off of that fifty dollar tire you just bought. In all seriousness though, this video definitely captures all the best parts of riding a fixed gear. Ever since FGFS came crashing into the scene, laid back videos of plain old riding and having fun just aren't as common and I'm glad to see the guys at Macaframa still got it! Smash on Mashers.

I spotted this awesome photoset on FRESHNGOOD's website of the 2011 retro cycling L'Eroica event. From what I have gathered L'Eroica is a retro themed bike race that follows an unbelievable route through the Tuscany countryside (who wouldn't want to do that?). Although I am not usually one for FGFS, there are definitely a few videos here and there that I can really get into. "I Would Buy One" from John over at Prolly Is Not Probably is definitely one of those edits. The soundtrack is GREAT (Rick Ross sucks but he makes it work and Black Sabbath well, they just rage) and there is such a perfect mix of 20", 26" and 29" wheeled bikes that its hard not to stay interested. With a solid foundation in photography I would say his videography skills are definitely getting there (love the skid shot in the beginning). By the way Tony Fast SHREDS.

Ebay Dreams: NOS TI Shamal Wheelset

Definitely a little pricey but an awesome eBay find none the less. Besides maybe a high-tech pair of Madfibers or maybe some 1080's, this is honestly the best looking wheelset to date (THE best if we are talking metal). I have always loved the old Shamals, the 12 spoke front and 16 spoke rear lacing, the beautifully polished sidewalls and of course those stunning low flange hubs. NOS and Titanium, man am I drooling right now. Cop this pair right about...here.

I would kill a man for this wheelset, but really.

Random Ride

I was feeling rather ambitious when I woke up this morning and decided to bring my digital camera along for the ride. It wasn't a long ride by any means, but definitely relaxing. For the first part of the fall semester and the latter part of the spring semester riding around rural State College is absolutely Beautiful. I snapped a few shots as I rode around one of my normal routes and here are a few I liked. If you were ever looking for an infinite number of outrageous climbs followed by even more outrageous hill bombing, State College is definitely a good place to be.

Ever since I was a young lad, the art of graffiti has always intrigued me. How is it that someone can make lines so sharp and images so detailed with a can of spray paint? Constantly I am stumbling upon new artists, Kid Zoom aka Ian Strange being the most recent. Spreading himself between buildings, canvas, installation and even road kill, it is easy to see his unbelievable talent. I highly recommend checking out his website. The blog is only updated once every month or two but when something new pops up it never disappoints. After filing through the pictures I wish I could have visited his "This City Will Eat Me Alive" exhibition a while back; some of his pieces just blow my mind. I'll definitely be on the look out for future exhibitions and you should too.

I am a HUGE fan of vibrant colors and an even bigger fan of steel bicycles so when I laid eyes on this beautiful Tammasini Strada built by, the ever impressive, Shifter Bikes in Melbourne Australia, I pretty much died and went to heaven. The color combo on this thing is breath taking and all the black Campy Super Record components are just icing on the cake. Everytime I look through the original pictures on Fame & Spear's Flickr I notice something new; beautifully stamped lugs, internal cable routing, the blindingly awesome paint job, the list goes on. I could honestly ramble about this bike for pages. A man can dream can't he?

In recent months it has been no secret that Levi's has jumped headfirst into the cycling world. Between collaborations with Prolly is not Probably, the release of an entire "commuter" collection and this...amusing bicycle. It has definitely been an interesting process to follow and I most of their additions to the community are very good ones. Really what inspired this post is the "Go Fourth" advertising campaign seen above. For some reason the words and actions in this commercial really stuck with me.

The new Levi's commuter pant is so rad; with a U-lock holster, WATERPROOF technology and a few other nifty features these puppies were made for everyone who rides their bike on a daily basis. They are absolutely perfect for someone (like myself) looking for a solid pair of pants made to take on the wear and tear of cycling and don't cost $188 a pair.

I made a stencil very similar to this a while back and wanted to draw it more realistically; this is what I came up with. It's not completely finished but you get the idea.

Although I don't know a great deal about the BMX scene, I do know that Nigel Sylvester's flow is undeniable. Every time I see a new clip from this guy it makes me want to pick up my old bmx bike and go for a ride. This Commercial for Sylvester's forthcoming New Era x Animal cap and seat is so well put together, I love how he is talking about the foundation that BMX was built on, the time and pain put in and then, "There is no better feeling than this..." BAM CurT@!N$ comes in with Maniac off of his Killer Tape - Tagless EP and Sylvester kills it. If you can appreciate his buttery style I highly recommend watching his Gatorade Go All Day flicks.

The Emergence of Bike Polo

Yesterday I picked up the Philadelphia Inquirer and found myself staring at an article on the front page featuring the ever growing sport of bike polo. I think the author did a pretty good job of showcasing the sport and giving readers an idea of where bike polo is now and where the sport is going. I honestly had no idea that corporate America (Fuze Beverage which is now part of Coca-Cola) was so closely involved. The part about the "best player in Philadelphia" and the "bad boy" are pretty comical but overall it was a decent read and an awesome way to introduce the sport to a much broader audience.

BodaBoda Bombs Broadway

BodaBoda always has the most killer videos, tearing through the city hanging on for dear life. I spotted this gem today on their site of the "Broadway Bombing 2011" that took place on July 4th. I highly recommend checking out the rest of their videos on vimeo (the one with the tall-bike is so legit). I would definitely like to see Crihs' helmet cam footage from the race. Events like this make me wish I lived somewhere where goodhearted, unsanctioned races are held on a regular basis.

This street ready graffiti mobile is stocked with everything a graffiti artist could ever want (paint, tips, markers, extinguishers, a stereo, even masks, lights, climbing rope and extension chords). i wouldn't mind seeing this bad boy in action. Spotted on 12ozProphet posted by world renown auther and graffiti writer Bates; which by the way is an awesome site for keeping up with the goings on in the urban art community. This, right here, is the kind of fixed gear video that I live for. Awesome tunes, crazy riding and just an all around good feel. A bunch of friends riding hard, feeding off of each other, having a blast. Although the cars didn't seem to be going too fast I can't believe they were riding on the highway; insane. I love when the one dude spreads his arms out at 1:36, it feels so good to ride like that for a few seconds. The guys from Puerto Rico Fixed did an outstanding job on this and I can't wait for the next video in the series.

Chalfont PA to Stockton NJ and Beyond

Today a really good friend and I road from Chalfont, through New Hope and then along the Delaware River to good ole' Stockton NJ. The trip was a little over 44 miles and every second was awesome (except for the 10 minutes when I had a flat in the middle of nowhere with no spare tube). New Hope is a really nice area to ride through and along the river is absolutely beautiful; the photos don't do it a bit of justice. It never ceases to amaze me how friendly people can be. We were stuck in the middle of the woods with a flat and a dad riding with three little kids, gave me a spare tube and basically put it on for me with not so much as a second thought. Definitely going to be carrying spares on long rides from now on. The ride was a blast and I cannot wait for more to come. On a side note, I had the best Falafel ever for lunch at a great, hole in the wall middle eastern restaurant.

A Walk In The Woods

Yesterday after a solid 30 mile ride I cooled off by going for a stroll through the woods, I took my camera with me and snapped a few close-up shots that I thought were pretty cool. A nice camera is one of those things I would love to have but could never afford, I would just as soon spend the money on bike part. Anyway I hope you enjoy the pictures!

For me, this clip truly captures the essence of what cool is. Find you're own rhythm and do what makes you feel good; the cool will come naturally. Cool could be flying down the middle of a vacant street on my bike with some good tunes, or walking down the sidewalk when everything just feels right. Wooden Wave Longboard Part 2

I finally got all of the hardware I ordered in the mail today, painted a small graphic on the top, put on a final coat of poly and threw on some griptape. There will definitely be more where this came from, the whole building experience was awesome and the board rides like a dream. Although in recent days I have been trying to get away from re-posting, there are still a few things that I just can't pass up. The 10.Deep look-book for summer 2011 is one of those things. Not only is the collection AWESOME but the photography is killer too. I mean, what better place to shoot than the world famous Coney Island with swagged out trickster Jamal Smith. These are just a few of my favorites but I highly recommend paging through the book in full. I think I need that leopard tank in the second photo. Dig it.

Cadence Cycling & Multisport Center: Visit

Today a friend and I hopped in the car and rode down to Manayunk to check out the Cadence bike shop on Main street and it was unbelievable to say the least. The store was FILLED with top of the line Cervelo's, Canondale's, Wilier's and so many more. I forgot a camera so these less than satisfactory phone pictures will have to do for now. A guy can dream can't he? I have to say, walking through that shop felt like browsing around in a Ferrari dealership. The visit also helped me realize that I would give my left arm for a black and green, 2011 Cervelo R5.

Although I'm not sure when exactly these video came out (I think last years BFF in SF), they are sick. I only posted the first of five but you can check out the rest on TOLA if you have some time to kill. In short, the documentary follows a group of professional skaters, including Cairo Foster, Rick McCrank, Jon Rattray and a number of other notable skaters, touring the New Zealand by bicycle. Throughout their journey they hit a ton of cool skate spots and check out all that New Zealand has to offer. I would love to tour another country by bicycle, skateboard or not!

Wooden Wave Longboard Part 1

I have always loved skateboarding, normal and longboarding and a few weeks ago when I was sitting in my room trying to think of something interesting to do with my life, an outlandish idea popped into my head. Maybe I'll make a longboard of my own. So began construction on a press modeled after the one shown on toothless longboards. Initially I imagined myself pumping out hundreds of longboards from my garage and eventually becoming a world supplier of grade A longboards. Unfortunately it didn't really turn out like that but here is my first attempt thus far. The concave isn't quite what I wanted but it'll do for now.

As I was scrolling through my Reader today, I came across this gem entitled "Los Angelopes". I'm so stoked on this trailer for so many reasons. It really captures, what I feel, riding a bike is all about. Ride what you want how you want and the only rule: Have a blast doing it. Another reason I love this video is TALL BIKES! I freaking love tall bikes and would kill for one of my own. The background music is awesome, I just watched this ten times. A really cool local lavender farm right around the corner from Peace Valley Park

Over all it was a great ride, definitely one of the upsides to being home. That and family with unbelievable food all the time; can't beat it. Super stoked on this weather, I hope it keeps up!

Fatty Hill Bomb

The weather is beautiful, the birds are chirping and there are hills to bomb. I went for a nice 25 mile ride today, enjoyed the weather and hit a new top speed on the NERD. Certainly a great day and an excellent way to forget about the weight of finals for a bit. Get out there and RIDE!

Kidult's boldness never ceases to amaze me. A huge extinguisher piece on a major street in broad daylight holding an extinguisher filled with bright pink paint wearing a skeleton mask. How he eludes the police is beyond me. Mad props and we are definitely over Mr. Brainwash, he was cool for about a month but I really don't see any originality there. I'm also a huge fan of DJ shadow and Mos Def, such a dope track.

ECCC Nittany Cycling Classic: Frat Row Criterium

Two of my friend's teammates had these Lynskey Helix frames. They are SO DOPE. The twisted titanium is out of control and probably bomb proof too.

Before It really started raining.

Today was the Frat Row Criterium, which is the second half of the Nittany Cycling Classic. Although I did not participate it was undoubtedly an exciting event. The course had an obscene amount of sharp turns and seeing how it is always raining in State College there were way too many crashes. Racers were sliding all over the road with more wrecks than I could even count. Unfortunately I didn't see the end of women's A/B or the men's A because one of my good friends was one of the riders injured in a crash. Honestly I think they should have postponed the race. When people start breaking bones left and right it seems reason enough to me. Anyway I'm glad I got to check out the race and my brain is still on bike pron overload.

As I was scrolling through my News Feed this morning I could not help but stop and stare at the unbelievable work of REVERT capture by ilkflottante. As the ever-growing graffiti and "street art" scene becomes more mainstream I feel it is becoming harder and harder to do something completely unique. Although I am no expert when it comes to graffiti, I can safely say the work REVERT is doing is nothing like I have ever seen before. These two pieces are just stupid, the amount of detail pretty much blew me off of my chair and his style is so rad. If anyone knows if he has a blog/website or flickr let me know because I would love to check it out!

I spotted this a few days ago on Tracko and although I definitely agree that he could use some drops, this is the kind of video I live for. Just good old fashion mashing; flying through the streets with your legs going a mile a minute. Super stoked on this video and definitely looking forward to more in the future from Rayyiu Radzi.

On another note, the weather is FINALLY starting to get nice up here and with the wrist feeling better, I should be doing a bit of mashing of my own in the near future. Cheers!

Healin' and Dealin'

A while back I fell off my bike, for a few weeks I thought it was just sprained but it turned out that I broke my Scaphoid. MAJOR BUMMER. On a lighter note, after a bone graft and a screw everything is healing up nicely. I have been itching to get back on my bike; not being able to ride SUCKS. Once the weather starts to get nice up here I don't know what I'm going to do!

San Francisco native Justin Gallagher recently released this unbelievable demo reel and I couldn't stand not to re-post it. The cycling parts are awesome (I wouldn't expect anything less after his stint with Mash SF's Chas Christiansen) and that's only the half of it. There are a bunch of amazing shots and the soundtrack is perfect. I haven't seen too much of his work but after this one there is no doubt that I'll be checking it out. STOKED.

I was browsing around on Pedalroom today and I spotted this gem; a 1985 Schwinn Madison. I definitely have a soft spot for old steel and this thing is awesome. It just shows that a little spray paint and some elbow grease can bring an unbelievable road/track machine back to life. It doesn't take a $1,000 wheelset to make a bike look fly. I'm really digging that stem and what looks like a Sugino MC130NC chainring (not sure on that). For more comprehensive parts list check out his page.

Recently I have been sifting through thousands of road bikes on Velospace and here are a few that I found myself staring at for way too long. Grab some paper towels...to wipe the drool off of your keyboard of course. I love fixed but I need some gears!

If it wasn't ridiculously obvious, I love steel (I know, I know the 1200 is aluminum but I would still kill a man for that bike).

I have been riding fixed for over two years now and for the past few months I have been searching for the perfect road bike. In the words of All-City "no one out there is doing a high end steel frameset anymore" which to some extent is true. Bianchis and Cinellis are over priced and everything else comes with a Tiagra groupset at best. Although it is only a prototype, the Mr. Pink might just be the dream bike I have been waiting for! Between the Zona tubing, internal cable routing and mid reach breaks for extra clearance I can't think of anything they missed. I'm super stoked on this frame and I can't wait for more details on the final release. STEEL IS REAL!

I recently watched the documentary The Universe of Keith Haring and although cycling was never brought up in the film, it was present throughout. The first image is of Keith working with a group of children through his foundation with a Look Cycles sweatshirt and the second is a shot of his studio with what looks like a Cinelli Laser Pursuit with duel discs (far left). Keith was a pretty rad dude, the way he could paint enormous murals with no sketch blows my mind.

French clothing company Lacoste jumps on the fixed gear bandwagon in Japan with their newest line L!VE. The promotional video features various extreme sports athletes (Skateboarding, BMX, Break Dancing AND Fixed Gear Riding) performing in front of a projector. Pretty soon there is going to be a Luis Vuitton track bike. Get real.

For me the world of bike messengers has always been intriguing, especially those fighting traffic in NYC on a daily basis. This documentary, filmed in 2005, focuses a lot on the more competitive aspect of being a messanger, especially the life and travels of, Puma sponsored, Alfred Bobe. I would love to see the whole documentary but it is not easy to come by.

This short clip also has one of the best quotes I've heard in a while. Referring to Lance Armstrong a NYC bike messenger says, "you talking on a straight away, I'm not fucking with that cat, the man got it. 6 Tour de Frances, the man got it. But you put that mother fucker in the middle of 6th ave. at about 5 o'clock in the evening and race me, you're not making it."

I'm not usually a fan of Fixed Gear Freestyle videos. Honestly, most of the "edits" that have come out recently are an utter bore. Mediocre camera angles and the same old tricks. Sometimes the molasses like progression of fixed gear freestyle is just too much. This video however held my interest throughout. I love the DMX soundtrack and every trick is right there in your face (The hop to flat at 0:40 is gnarly). Overall it's an interesting video with cool camera angles and superb editing. I haven't heard much about the Planet Hops guys but I'm definitely going to keep an eye on them.

A few weeks ago these Royal Plus' from 10.Deep and PRO-Keds' Veteran Pack became available on the 10.Deep webstore and in select retailers. Although I'm not usually a fan of camouflage, I must say, I am a fan of these. The collection was released for 10.Deep's 15th anniversary and if you haven't already copped a pair...good luck.

I spotted this picture on Fixed/Fixie/Track/Pista! and I know how this guy feels. Riding to classes around campus and town can be the worst. To put it bluntly, without the proper equipment (and even with it) slush sucks. I do like the snowboard goggles though.

Being that Banksy is one of my favorite artists, I am always on the look out for new pieces and articles. I found this progression called "Stages of A Banksy Piece" which is pretty cool. It starts out with a blank wall, moves to a sketch with a number of ideas, then the actual painting. In the last picture the piece is written over. I feel as though this accurately shows the life cycle of most urban art. Banksy never ceases to amaze me, even the destruction still looks cool.

If I said what I found was impressive, that would most definitely be an understatement. Their craftsmanship and designs are out of control. Adidas did a collaboration with Brooklyn Machine Works and now this collab with artist Chairman Ting, DVS Shoes has an entire line of clothes and shoes dedicated to Keirin culture and fixed gear riding, even the skateboarding company Enjoi recently put out a line with fixed gear influence.

Because I am always on bike networking sites, I tend to see A LOT of bikes and sometimes, people just get everything right. Obviously I would make a few changes here and there but overall this dude has pretty much every bike I could ever want. Hell I would just take the Leader, Viner and Colnago and be perfectly happy.

To start things off, the perfect around town bike, a Leader 722TS with front and rear brakes, 28c tires and a sick front rack.

Next is a slew of track bikes, loaded with rad components and all very tastefully built.

Viner Track: Love the Wound-Up fork and I have never seen an FSA RB-600, that hub is nuts.

KHS Aero Track: The black Sugino 75's and Easton EC-90 Aero fork with Ellipses, rad

3rensho Track: Chub hubs are nuts and I'm always a fan of Stratos horns

Matsuri Track: Sugino Super Maxi cranks and UKAI NJS rims look so sick on this bike

Last but certainly not least, is probably the most beautiful Colnago I have ever seen. A Pro Lux Titanium with full Chorus and Shamals is enough to make me drool.

In recent years I have found myself constantly browsing bike networking sites (Velospace, Pedal Room, etc), looking at hundreds of bikes dreaming of what i might someday acquire. In doing this I noticed a few bikes with corks attached to the seat. I always wondered what the significance of these corks were until a while back, Prolly Is Not Probably posted a detailed description about how the cork is what keeps all of the bubbling power inside a bottle of champagne and in turn provides the vigor needed to keep that extra little bit of power in the cyclist. In honor of the new year I decided to pop open the bubbly and add a cork of my own!

The Mysterious World of TallBikes and Jousting

Although I hadn't previously heard of C.H.U.N.K 666 I happened to stumble upon it today and I must say, I am intrigued. First I came upon their blog which, i might add, has some very interesting posts (tallbike construction primer as well as the MOAB or mother of all bikes). I then went to their website which, at first glance, seems to be a a fixed gear/bike polo "online boutique", BUT when I clicked on the links I was redirected to loosely related blog posts about AWESOME things. For example I clicked on the "lathe turned HDPE polo mallet end caps" and was given a look into the world of mutant bike polo. It seems that the creators of C.H.U.N.K 666 are not only serious bike jousters but strong proponents of the tallbike movement. Whatever they are doing, it looks like some serious fun.

Unfortunately, it seems as though the blog is no longer in use considering the last post is nearly three years ago. C.H.U.N.K 666 gives a one of a kind look into a part of cycling that isn't often brought to the spot light and I am glad to have found it. If anyone knows what's up with C.H.U.N.K 666 I would love to hear and see more!

This article by Junji Miyazawa puts into words, the number one reason why I love riding my bike. I feel as though everyone should have that escape, a place where you can go to get rid of all the clutter. In my case I can just hop on my bike, clip in and all of the stresses of daily life just fade away. The only thing that matters is the road ahead. Miyazawa's article Zen and the Art of Urban Cycling, explains why it is so easy to loose yourself while in the saddle. It's an awesome article that everyone should read!

If I Had This Kind of Dough...

Although I love riding track bikes, fixed gears, "fixies", whatever you want to call them, I feel as though some people get a bit carried away. This Affinity Lo Pro is one of these instances. Don't get me wrong I think this bike looks awesome and the amount of money put into it is mind blowing; I just don't see the practicality. What is the point of having a $1500 zipp disc, $800 trispoke, GIANT Zen chainring and a slew of other track bike goodies on a bike that will obviously never see the track. Even small climbs would be a challenge on this beast and if there is a cross wind, forget it. With the time and money spent on this bike this guy could have a nice fixed gear AND a sweet road bike. If only I had his resources.

Although the snow is coming down pretty hard outside I went for a quick jaunt around the neighborhood before it got too bad and i must say, they are AWESOME.
